About

Hi. This is a site/domain which I’ve had since maybe 1999. For a brief shining moment ftp.nutation.net held some really cool junglish dnbassy tracks from people around the world. I had to take that down due to my general transient nature and a hard drive crash. The good people have stuff out on theAgriculture label.

Oh, but about me. Well. I’m Richard Seymour, born in 1979 in Western New York. I spend a lot of time in front of a computer. Most recently I have been working at the Collaboratory for Advanced Computing and Simulation at the University of So. Cal. I’m a PhD student in Materials Science and Engineering and also working on a MS in Computer Science. What does that mean? Well, currently I wrote some software to simulate the interaction of atoms currently using rather simple functions called interaction potentials which tell an atom (just a set of coordinates) how hard to be pushed or pulled by another atom (or usually lots of atoms) around it. This is nothing special, luckily our group has lots of special people in it and a lot of computing power to use, so by the time I have finished my thesis I should have something special.

In my off time I play guitar, write lame solo stuff, play in a band, sing karaoke (wha?), read, ride bikes, take pictures and umm… shoot, I should really do more stuff.

I used to live in NYC but now I live in LA and for Summer 2008 I’m living in Houston, TX.

Also I’ve been remiss at mentioning that I sort of stole (one word) of the title for this blog ’stochastic statements’ from Bethany Riker’s show the Stochastic Hit Parade on WFMU. Not that I hadn’t used the word before, but seriously I stole it from her show, sort of.
